15cm in size. Crown and back of female  yellowish-buff streaked brown; breast, supercelium and sides of neck yellowish-buff. Non-breeding male similar but breast and supercelium pale yellow. Male has vriable throat - exreme pale-throated individual shown; white throat in female. Open country with scattered trees, scrub and cultivation.
