33cm in size. A fairly distinctive small raptor with pointed wings. Could be mistaken for a harrier, but note tha black shoulder. Commonly hovers when searching for prey, a habit not usually shared by the harriers which are much larger, slimmer and longer-winged. Generally in drier open country of the lowlands.
