Widespread resident; unrecorded in parts of the northwest and northeast. Slim and graceful. Typically, has black bill, black legs with yellow feed, and greyish lores (lores reddish during courtship). Some can be very similar to Western Reef. Bill in non-breeding and immature can be paler and pinkish or greyish at base, and can be dull yellowish on some. Inland and coastal waters.
